The neuroscience of empathy in healthcare professionals is vital to understanding its relationship with burnout and emotional exhaustion. Empathy, essential in clinical practice, can lead to emotional stress and burnout when exercised intensely. This paper explores the neurological processes of empathy and strategies for preventing burnout. The literature review analyzes emotional regulation and compassion fatigue, focusing on neural mechanisms such as the prefrontal cortex and limbic system. Strategies such as self-compassion, mindfulness and psychological support are essential to modulate empathy and create a healthy work environment, benefiting both professionals and patients.
